With my latest introduction of tips for photographers and all the chit chat about posing, it got me thinking… what if you want an ANTI posing shoot?

The traditional idea of a photoshoot can be contrived, and with all the expectations set by social media these days a shoot can feel very out of your depth. I get it! You don’t want to feel awkward in front of the camera and you definitely don’t want to suddenly feel like you are a puppet at the mercy of your photographer!

Most people think they need to pose perfectly for great photos, but what if that’s the opposite of what actually works?

We’ve all seen those overly polished, stiffly posed photos—the ones where people stand rigidly with forced smiles, hands awkwardly placed, or shoulders unnaturally squared. These images often feel more like a staged performance than a real moment.

The truth? The best photos don’t come from “perfect” posing—they come from real presence and feeling something real. My approach is always to direct in a way that brings this out of you.

A photo with presence is about being fully in the moment.

Traditional posing can feel unnatural because it creates tension and forces a disconnect. People become hyper-aware of their body, leading to stiffness in their shoulders, hands, and even facial expressions.

It gets in the way of any real emotion. A rigid pose can strip away the personality and energy that make a photo truly compelling.

Instead of worrying about how you look, you’re engaged in something real—walking, laughing, interacting, thinking. Your body naturally moves in ways that feel fluid and relaxed. Your expressions are genuine, not forced.

The magic happens when you forget about the camera and just be. That’s when you get images that feel effortless, emotional, and completely you.

When you prioritize presence over posing, you get photos that are timeless, emotive, and effortless.

How your photographer should guide you so it feels effortless:

They Will Focus on How You Feel, Not Just How You Look

The best photos happen when you feel something real—not when you’re trying to “get it right.” That’s why I’ll guide you in ways that make you feel present, connected, and at ease.

When you feel good, you look good—and that’s where the magic happens.

They Set the Scene for Comfort & Ease

Before we even start, I make sure you feel relaxed. No awkward small talk or stiff instructions—I’ll get to know you, create a vibe that suits you, and make the whole experience feel more like hanging out rather than a photoshoot.

They Give You Movement Prompts, Not Static Poses

Instead of telling you to "stand still and smile," I’ll guide you into natural movement so that you never feel frozen or unsure of what to do with your hands.

They Watch for the Magic Moments You Don’t Even Notice

Some of the best shots happen in between the "moments"—a quick glance, a genuine laugh, the way the light hits your face just right.

I’m constantly watching for those in-between, unposed moments and capturing them before you even realize they’re happening. This means you get photos that feel alive, cinematic, and completely you—without you even trying.

So, What Does This Mean for You?

You don’t have to worry about “what to do.”
You don’t need to pose—I’ll guide you in a way that feels natural.
You’ll walk away with photos that feel effortless, full of energy, and completely YOU.

And trust me—by the end of the shoot, you’ll forget the camera is even there!
